Welcome to the Website of the Horsham & District Radio Controlled Model Club, we hope you find it of interest.

The club was formed in late 1968 by a group of enthusiasts living in and around Horsham. Some of the founder members are still with us.

In 2018 we celebrated our 50th Anniversary

We used to fly on friendly farmers fields on a rotation basis with no mown strip so the models tended to be Wot Four style with 4inch wheels or no undercarriage at all. This continued for many years but with falling costs and advances in radio systems and increasing sophistication of the models flown it was felt that it was about time we found a permanent site where we could mow a strip. This was found just north of Horsham but we ran into problems with the planning authorities and had to vacate a very suitable site, however all was not lost as we had been using our current site for silent flight for many years and on approaching the owner we gained permission to use the site for power. We currently enjoy 24x7 access for silent and quiet electric flight, Saturdays and Sunday morning for I.C. power with limited use on a Wednesday afternoon also for I.C. power. During the summer months we organize electric and helicopter evenings mid-week.

We have a healthy band of members who beat the air into submission with helicopters; electric flight is growing in popularity at an unprecedented rate with the advances in battery and motor technology. We fly small to large models, jets, scale, electric, gliders and helicopters, indeed if it has wings or blades someone in the club has had a go!. We have members of all abilities and ages so this should not put you off from coming along and trying this great hobby of ours.

We have Area chief examiners, four club examiners and approved instructors who, are always happy to help any member with checking out a new model, flying instruction and hopefully moving on to examining through two levels of achievement. We have two trainer aircraft one power and one electric glider which are available for training by arrangement. We are proud to have or had in the club the British scale champion, representatives in the European and World glider championships, the Editor of the British electric flight association magazine.

Some of our members have flown at major model shows representing some of the manufacturers so there is a wealth of experience in all aspects of our sport.

We have a monthly club night where we try to keep members happy with all sorts of activities, visiting speakers etc.

During the winter months we organise indoor flying events at local sports halls and cater for small electric indoor planes and helicopters.
